River Bluff Cellars Tasting Notes

All 2005 wines have been aged 24 months in French Oak. All wines went through malolatic fermentation. The fruit is estate grown, though not stated. Brant Davis does his own farming and wine making.

Brant was introduced to the Rhone Varitals in the early 1980's and had his first taste of Charbono at the Inglenook Family Winery in Saint Helena. Brant sourced the budding wood from a family that was married into them in 1993, and in 1994 planted the Charbono, Petite Sirah, Mourvedre, along with twelve other Rhone Varitals. These are the source to the River Bluff Wines.

Intense heat fluctuation in day to night temperature is up to 40 degrees and sets the fruit and wine apart from others. All fruit is head trained, hand picked and furrow irrigated in an old school manner.

Charbono

  • Aroma of lilacs, fresh roses greet the nose gradually transforming from blackberry to a smokey component with a velvety soft finish.
  • Great with light hors d'oeuvre, fresh garden salad, and fresh pesto.

Mourvedre

  • Ripe green olives greet the nose, while touches of musky earth tones embed themselves around bursting cherry tomatoes with a touch of strawberry hits the mid-palate, dark chocolate finish.
  • Great with fresh cilantro salsa, asian dishes, and deserts.

Old Vine Zinfandel

  • Intense fruit hits the nose, luscious berry fruit juicy and ripe, black figs. A mild spice very soft and smooth finish.
  • Great with mesquite smoked chicken, ravioli red sauce, meat dishes, and stews.

Petite Sirah

  • Intense deep and concentrated on the palate, with ripe crushed blackberry, meaty mild tannins, and a fine soft pure finish.
  • Great with spicy ribs off of the BBQ, grilled vegetables, and garlic infused dishes.

Tantalize

  • Complexity is an understatement. Aromatic intensity entices the nose. Fresh berries and pepper are lively on the palate smooth texture finishes.
  • Great with hearty meat dishes, pasta, and garlic red sauces. A great everyday wine with everything.

Viognier

  • Fresh floral aromas engulf the nose, ripe casaba melon and tangerines hit the mid palate, big body with a full mouth feel. It finishes with a smooth butterscotch finish.
  • Good with spicy appetizer, fish, shell fish, pork tender loin, Asian dishes.
